GREENLAWN CAMPUS

2 SE:  Oncology and General Medical Unit.  Focus of care is holistic and multidisciplinary, with staff involved in quality improvement activities and continuous learning. All RNs achieve chemotherapy certification and are encouraged to achieve OCN certification.

3 North:  Observational Telemetry Unit (opened 1/31/08).

3 South:  General Medical-Surgical unit.Unit utilizes primary and modular models of care. Special features include general, oncological, gynecological, urological, gastrointestinal, plastic/reconstructive, and ear, nose and throat surgery. Medical patients may include those with the diagnosis of diabetes, cellulitis, cholesistitis and pancreatitis.

3 - 4 Chi:  Surgical Cardiovascular/Thoracic Telemetry Step-Down Care Unit Total of 47 monitored beds. Unit utilizes primary and modular models of care. Special features include thoracic, general vascular and cardiovascular surgical patients.

4 North / 4 South:  Cardiac-Medical Telemetry Step-Down Unit. Total of 32 monitored beds with the capability to monitor hemodynamically stable, critically ill adults requiring close observation due to anti-arrhythmic and vasoactive drip medications. Patients may include those with the diagnoses of acute phase myocardial infarction, PTCA/Coronary Stents, Pacemaker and ICD placement (invasive cardiac procedures) and Congestive Heart Failure.

6 South:  General Telemetry Medical Unit. Unit utilizes modified primary model of care. Special features include care of acute and chronic respiratory disorders, including patients requiring ventilator care, and the care of patients needing peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis. In addition, two rooms are available for tuberculosis patients.

6 North:  Cardiac-Medical Stroke Telemetry Unit. Total of 24 monitored beds. Patients may include those with the diagnosis requiring arrhythmia management, patients with chest pain, myocardial infarction, stroke patients, syncope and coronary artery disease diagnoses as well as respiratory and neurological disorders.

Hemodialysis Unit:  Delivery of care is focused on hemodialysis to inpatients requiring treatment of renal failure. Hemodialysis is performed in the unit as well as in critical care areas.

Birthing Center:  22 bed Birthing Center with 10 LDRP’s, 8 private post-partum rooms and 2 semi-private post-partum rooms. The unit has a level II nursery equipped for newborn special care, a C-Section suite, Recovery Room, 3 exam rooms and 2 triage beds. Special features include: whirlpool tubs in the LDRP’s, couplet care, antepartum inpatient care, prenatal classes, full time lactation consultants, and a state of the art infant security system.

CICU:  A Cardiac/Medical Intensive Care Unit with 12 beds. Features include acute interventions on multi-system failures, unstable PTCA’s or coronary stents, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and titration of multiple vasoactive drips. Patients’ diagnoses may include acute respiratory or renal failure, and cardiogenic shock.

Emergency:  Treats approximately 47,000 patients annually. Special features include all types of major and minor emergencies including care of patients with cardiac, pulmonary, trauma, medical and surgical complications. All RNs are certified in ACLS. All physicians are board certified in Emergency Medicine. Affiliated with Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Michigan State University.

OR:  Operating Room with 10 rooms, including 2 dedicated open-heart rooms and an endovascular room. Special features include intensive, individualized orientation program with focus on specialty teams. Specialties include ophthalmology, orthopedics, gynecology, ENT, laser, peripheral vascular work, urology, plastic and reconstructive work, thoracic, oncology, trauma care, general surgery and a robotics program.

PACU:  Post Anesthesia Care Unit with 20 patient care areas.

Pediatrics:  12 bed Pediatric Unit for age’s birth to 18 years old. The unit is comprised of 8 private rooms and a 4-bed ward. Pediatric Hospitalists are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Pre-Op Visit:  Focus of care is on pre-operative interview and assessment. RN’s and one unit secretary staff this unit. Patient’s ages range from infants to the elderly. The RN uses anesthesia criteria to assess the Outpatient/Same Day Surgical patient population. The primary goals of the Pre-Op Visit Center are to recognize the patient as an individual and as a participant in their care. Teaching is directed to meet patient needs,

Same Day Surgery:  The Pre-Op Area has a 28-bed capacity and prepares outpatients for surgery and other procedures. Emphasis is on interview and assessment skills, pre-procedure and discharge patient/family education.

SICU:  The Surgical Intensive Care Unit has a 16-bed capacity, and the unit utilizes a primary model of care. Special features include cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, open-heart surgery, trauma and any general surgery requiring intensive care monitoring and interventions. Acute intervention may include titrating multiple vasoactive medications and intra-aortic balloon pump therapy.

Special Studies:  This area includes three cardiac catheterization labs and one special procedures lab. The department performs all types of cardiac and special radiologic invasive procedures. Highly specialized staff comprised of RN’s, RRT’s, and RCVT’s.

Special Studies Holding:  3N is an 8-10-bed unit for outpatients having diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures. Emphasis is on interview and assessment skills, pre-op preparation, post-op care, and patient/family education.



PENNSYLVANIA CAMPUS

Ingham Regional Orthopedic Hospital:  Surgical Services consists of 5 areas: Pre-op Visit, Same Day Surgery, Operating Room, PACU, and 2 East). These areas encompass the patient's entire orthopedic surgery experience. Pre-op interviews are accomplished via the phone and testing, when necessary, are done the day of surgery providing a one-time visit philosophy.

The 8 operating rooms offer the ability to provide a vast array of inpatient and outpatient orthopedic surgical procedures which include, but are not limited to, total hips, spine and neurological, and pain management. Special features include private and semi-private admit/discharge rooms for patient privacy.

1 & 2 East:  The Orthopedic Unit is known for national excellence specializing in orthopedic surgeries including: back, total hip, total knee and shoulder with guaranteed growth in the future. The 33-bed unit demonstrates collaborative nursing care from postoperative to discharge and utilizes primary and modular nursing models of care Special features include a full range of orthopedic surgeries, including arthroscopy and total joint replacements.

Endoscopy:  Outpatient GI procedures are performed in four procedure rooms on the Pennsylvania campus. Procedures include upper endoscopies, colonoscopies, ERCP's and esophageal motility studies. Care is provided to adult and pediatric populations. Inpatient GI procedures are provided at the Greenlawn campus by the same dedicated nursing staff. Nursing is available for emergency coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Gero-Psych:  Unit Description for Geropsychiatric Evaluation and Management Services (GEMS). A 26 bed locked unit for patients 60 years and older with acute psychiatric illness. A multidisciplinary team works with patients and families to achieve optimal mental health for the patients, to improve their quality of life.



OTHER

Hospital Teaching Clinics and Practices:  Women's Health Center, South Penn Family Care Center, Infectious Disease Clinic, Internal Medicine Clinic, MSU Orthopeadics, Okemos Internal Medicine, OB Resident Clinic, and Ingham Pain Management Center.

Infusion Center:  Outpatient general infusion therapy center with a capacity of 10 infusion chairs. Includes all non-chemotherapy infusions using short and long term peripheral and central vascular access devices. Special features include telemetry for cardiac patients.
